Dear Glen Residents,

With the upcoming freezing temperatures and projected inclement weather on the rise, we would like to send out a couple of reminders.

We are expecting significant accumulations of snow and ice this upcoming weekend, Saturday night and well into Sunday. We would like our residents to be as prepared as possible, so please direct your attention to this important notice.

Please make sure that your trash is properly contained and placed out on Saturday morning. There is no trash pick-up on Sundays, but we can expect possible delays on Monday. Alerts of changes to the trash schedule will be posted on the website and sent out via Glen alert as soon as we receive them from the contractor.

Please note that if you haven’t already done so, your outdoor spigots should be turned off, hoses removed (water remaining in hoses can freeze and travel up the pipe and freeze) and drain any remaining water left in the pipe. This will prevent any frozen/burst pipes. Please also be sure to check your building’s black rubber down-spouts to make sure nothing is blocking the end of the spout. Leaves and dirt are often inside the spout at the ground level. Our maintenance staff will be out inspecting the gutters, downspouts and drains over the next few days to ensure everything is in good order.

Resident Reminders for during storms:

    1. Although the Association is responsible for snow removal, we do encourage residents to have essentials on hand such as shovels and ice melt, as in extreme circumstances, snow removal delays may occur. Although power outages are not expected, they can happen. Having water on hand, a power bank, and a heat source are advisable.
    2. Limit travel, if possible, during inclement weather. If Virginia declares a state of emergency, residents should shelter in place unless there is an emergency.
    3. It may be snowing hard enough at times during the storm that snow removal teams cannot travel safely and/or extremely poor visibility will prevent them (and other contractors, VDOT etc.) to plow streets. Please be aware of the possibility that residents may have to wait until conditions are safe enough to plow safely.
    4. Just because it stops snowing doesn’t mean the roads and lots will be immediately plowed. It’s supposed to snow for 18+ hours and will take snow removal teams time to get everywhere.
    5. Please do not throw snow back into lots when cleaning off the cars, as it gets compacted in place and turns to ice.
    6. PLEASE don’t let kids build snow forts in the giant snow piles near streets or play in the streets.  They can build forts in a front yard, back yard anywhere else but not AT or IN the street.  This is a dangerous hazard with trucks plowing snow and pushing snow into piles.

Management continues to monitor the weather and freezing temperatures and will dispatch our contractors and site staff for ice treatment and snow removal, as needed. Important updates will be provided via Glen Alert.

Stay safe and warm!
